Inside the Vault
The Linear Accelerator is housed in a specially
constructed
vault with lead-lined concrete walls.
|
This concrete pad was the first visible sign, other than
dirt work, that something was being built.
|
| Concrete walls soon followed, varying from 3-feet to 8-feet
thick. |

|
|
|
Walls for the vault area were poured,
then the Cancer Center was
constructed around the vault. |
The door frame to the vault weighed some
1,500 pounds. |
Dr. James Petrikas is shown with the linear accelerator inside
the vault. He is facing west.
The accelerator weighs approximately, 38,000 pounds.
