The Podiatry Residency Program at Hunt Regional Medical Center is part of the Texas Podiatric Medical Foundation's statewide Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Residency network.

The Program

 

  • Director: Steven P. Brancheau, D.P.M.
  • Residency & Clerkship Coordinator: Diana McDonald
  • PM&S-36 (36 month program)
  • 6 residents per year
  • CPME Approved, in good standing with COTH
  • Emphasis on forefoot and rearfoot reconstructive surgery and trauma
  • Passage of NBPME: Part I & Part II

  • Nationally recognized guest lecture program
  • Residents attend ACFAS and AO Fixation courses each year
  • One month fellowship in Germany completed each year by our Senior resident
    • 2-5 weeks
    • completed in Aachen, Rheinback, and Hamburg Germany, as well as Wels, Austria
    • Travel may include additional locations.
    • Focus is on reconstructive surgery with a mix of forefoot and rearfoot surgery.
    • Opportunity to attend orthopedic foot and ankle conferences.


Post-op Clinic

 

  • Every Monday
  • Residents follow patients through their post-surgical care
  • Includes long-term follow up and treatment of any complications
  • Routine foot care


On Call

 

  • Every 3rd week
  • Adult & pediatric patients
  • On call treatment
    • Open fractures
    • Metatarsal fractures
    • Ankle fractures
    • Lis Francs fracture/dislocations
    • Calcaneal fractures
    • Diabetic infections
    • Ankle trauma

  • Bunions, hammertoes, lesser ray surgery

  • Charcot reconstruction

  • Germany rearfoot reconstruction- 3rd year for up to 6 weeks

Stipends & Benefits

 

  • PGY3 $34 K annually
  • PGY2 $36 K annually
  • PGY1 $38 K annually
  • Residency program funding is supplemented with generous grants given from major Orthotic supply companies
  • Benefits:

    • Book stipend up to $500 annually
    • CME up to $2,500 annually, including annual ACFAS meeting to present posters/papers
    • PTO of 15 calendar days

Application Process

 

  • Open to 3rd year Podiatric Medical students
  • Completion of a clerkship is recommended before applying for a residency position
  • Three-day visits are allowed to our program. Please contact us in advance to schedule the dates of your visit.
  • Application forms are posted in mid-October by AACPM (American Association of Colleges of Podiatric Medicine)
  • Access forms on CASPR website (Centralized Application Service for Podiatric Residencies)
