Behavioral Health Unit



Reception areaThe Behavioral Health Unit assists patients in reaching their optimal level of functioning by providing a therapeutic, patient-centered, culturally sensitive environment.

 

The Behavioral Unit is a 22-bed Acute Inpatient Psychiatric Unit located on the 5th floor of Hunt Regional Medical Center in Greenville. Patients receive psychiatric care from an experienced interdisciplinary team of medical and mental health professionals.

Admission criteria

 

The Behavioral Health Unit admits individuals who are

 

  • 18 & older
  • At risk of harm to self, harm to others, or experiencing psychosis
  • Exhibiting a wide variety of symptoms
  • Medically stable
  • Voluntary patients, willing to sign in
  • Involuntary patients, requiring court involvement

Signs and symptoms of psychiatric distress

 

Individuals in need of acute psychiatric care may exhibit the following:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Suicidal suicidal thoughts, plans, or recent attempt
  • Homicidal thoughts
  • Anger, irritabilityCommunity room
  • Threats to others
  • Loneliness, isolation, withdrawal
  • Feelings of helplessness or despair
  • Inability to cope with grief or loss
  • Aggressive behavior
  • Tearfulness & crying spells
  • Confusion
  • Loss of appetite
  • Difficulty sleeping


The Behavioral Unit's interdisciplinary team includes:Kitchen area

 

  • Psychiatrists
  • Medical specialists
  • Licensed clinical social workers
  • Licensed professional counselors
  • Psychiatric nurses
  • Recreational therapists
  • Mental health technicians
  • Psychologists


The Behavioral Unit Treatment Program includes: Patient rooms are bright and airy

  • Individual/group/family therapy
  • Marriage and couple therapy
  • Therapeutic recreation
  • Physician oversight
  • Patient education
  • Daily therapeutic activities
  • Medication adjustment and monitoring
  • Behavior modification
  • Individualized care
  • Patient Privacy and confidentiality

 

Admission

 

Each patient receives a no-cost clinical assessmentPatients are admitted by referral from physicians. This can include ER staff, medical staff from Hunt Regional Healthcare, and attending physicians from other hospitals.

 

Concerned family members can contact the Behavioral Health Unit for referral advice.

 

A comprehensive clinical assessment will determine the need for treatment. A psychiatrist will work in collaboration with the primary care physician to determine the diagnosis and recommend appropriate treatment prior to admission to the program.

 

Caregivers, families, and primary care physicians are encouraged to participate in the treatment process by assisting with identification of problems and solutions.

Each room has a private bath

  • Patient rooms have hardwood floors and stainless steel appliances
  • Community Room with fully-equipped kitchen area and flat screen TV

  • Tuesday & Thursday: 7:30 p.m.- 8:30 p.m.
  • Saturday: 3 p.m. - 5 p.m.
  • Sunday: 3 p.m.- 5 p.m.

  • Daily 7:30 p.m.- 8:30 p.m.
