Pink Ladies Fashion Show

September 24, 2009 - The Hunt Regional Medical Center Volunteers presented their annual fashion show and luncheon to a sold out crowd Thursday at Wesley Methodist Church.

Janeen Cunningham, pictured at the microphone, provided the fall and winter fashions from Calico Cat.

HRH Foundation member Barbara Cullen is pictured in a stylish party ensemble while Volunteer Director Jeanye Roberts is shown in a faux fur jacket .

Money from the show goes to various hospital projects.

Lytle named Patient Care Associate of the Year

August 11, 2009 - Ester A. Lytle, a 10-year employee of Hunt Regional Medical Center, says she greatly appreciates her recent designation as Patient Care Associate of the year.

Ester received the honor earlier this summer from Nursing Administration. She is a PCA on 3rd floor Telemetry West.

“I appreciate it very much and I really love working at the hospital. I want to do a good job, and I’ll try to live up to the expectations that come with this award,” she said.

She has spent more than 20 years in the healthcare field and was associated with Baylor Medical Center in the mid-1990s.

Ester and her husband, Rex, live just north of Greenville. She has five children, 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She says she loves to cook, but her favorite activity is doing things with her grandchildren.

Trussell joins HRMC surgical staff

August 4, 2009 - Joshua Trussell, M.D., who recently completed his surgical residency at Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center in Phoenix, AZ, has joined the medical staff of Hunt Regional Healthcare.

Dr. Trussell will begin his practice as a general surgeon at Hunt Regional Medical Center at Greenville on Monday.

“We are delighted to have Dr. Trussell as a member our medical staff,” said Richard Carter, Hunt Regional CEO. “He has excelled throughout his medical education and surgical residency.”

A native of Mansfield, Dr. Trussell completed his doctor of medicine degree in 2004 at the University of Texas Health Science Center School of Medicine in Houston. He also holds a B.S. degree magna cum laude in biology from the University of Texas at Arlington.

During his residency, Dr. Trussell conducted a number of lectures and technical presentations as well as producing publications based on his research.

Dr. Trussell is a board-eligible candidate for the American Board of Surgery. He also is certified in advanced trauma life support and advanced cardiac life support.

Dr. Trussell is joining the practice of Primary Care Associates where practice manager Darrell Lummus said, “We are pleased to welcome Dr. Trussell to the PCA family of healthcare providers.

“He is coming from an excellent general surgery training program and will be a great addition to our group, Hunt Regional Medical Center and the communities we serve,” Lummus said.

“I’m delighted to join the Primary Care Associate family and medical staff at Hunt Regional Medical Center,” said Dr. Trussell. It is my goal to advance the surgical services at Hunt Regional to new avenues in complex laparoscopic surgery and surgical oncology. I am excited to join a sound medical team in providing care for a blessed community.”

Dr. Trussell’s wife Adrianne, is a certified orthopedic registered nurse, and has joined the Intensive Care Unit nursing staff at HRMC.

The couple has settled in their new Hunt County home. Together they enjoy golf, mountain biking, hiking and other outdoor activities.

Cancer support group forming

August 5, 2009 - Hunt Regional Medical Center will soon offer a new support group benefiting cancer patients and caregivers.

Journey Into Life, a peer-led support group for cancer patients and caregivers will begin meeting on September 17 at 6:30 p.m. in the Mitchell Reception Room at the Lou and Jack Finney Cancer Center. The monthly meetings will be held on the third Thursday of every month.

The support group is led by Melody Pierce, Hunt County Relay for Life chair. The purpose of the group is to offer emotional support for cancer patients and their caregivers.

Bicycle Rodeo set for August 20

August 5, 2009 - Remember the feeling of first learning to ride a bicycle on your own — without training wheels and without a parent's balancing hand? Remember that sudden rush of freedom?

“If you have to strain to think back that far, well, maybe it's time to strap on a helmet and saddle up, because not only is bicycling fun and freeing, it's an excellent way to get healthy exercise,” says Greenville Police Department Officer Chris McCasland, event organizer.

Bicycling, however, is not without its risks, he says.

That’s the motivation behind a bicycle skills event planned by several organizations to give bicyclists the opportunity to learn skills they need to be better cyclists.

Those involved are the Greenville Police Department and Hunt Regional Medical Center Trauma Department, with the help from W. Walworth Harrison Public Library, Greenville Fire Rescue, American Medical Response, Life Star Air Ambulance and the Greenville Cycling Club.

The “rodeo” will be held August 20 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the W. Walworth Harrison Public Library, #1 Lou Finney Lane. All bicyclists aged eight to 12 are invited to attend. This event is made up of a series of stations, each dealing with an important aspect of safe cycling. Participants will have their bicycles inspected and will then learn about and practice bicycle-handling skills that will increase their enjoyment of bicycling and could some day save their lives. Parents are invited to participate, too.

Children will need to provide their own bicycle and any safety equipment they might have. Hunt Regional Medical Center Trauma Department will provide bicycle helmets free of charge to children who don’t have them. Operation ID bicycle engraving will also be available on site.

Congressman Hall visits Finney Cancer Center

July 2, 2009 - Congressman Ralph Hall made a visit to the Hunt Regional Medical Center today, making a tour of the Lou and Jack Finney Cancer Center for the first time.

Prior to the tour Hall presented Administrator Mike Klepin a United States Flag that had flown over the U.S. Capitol (right).

Hall inspected the radiation treatment room (below) where dosimitrist-therapist Justin Sullivan illustrated the steps taken prior to administering radiation from the linear accelerator.
